Excellent story of Cass Rockwell assuming the identity of her nemesis, Celeste Carver, at a masked costume party, intending to exact her revenge and ruin her reputation. But then she meets the perfect man in Calder Blake (loved this guy)...who has a strong attraction for Cass, but who genuinely believes her to be Celeste.The beginning of this story isn’t very original, but it quickly morphs into a captivating mystery/suspense with a nice romantic subplot. Strong characters although I didn’t connect with them as well as I did with Talia & Sebastian, from books 1-3. I don’t know why. Intelligent dialogue. Provocative adult language kept to a minimum. Strong, captivating love scenes that don’t overwhelm the plot. Undercurrents of criminal activity combined with a touch of political intrigue. Good steady pacing...I never got bored and was reluctant to put this one down. The only downside is the unbelievable fact that Cass and Celeste look enough alike to pass for identical twins even though they’re not related. If you can suspend your belief that such a thing is possible, you’ll probably enjoy this one. Cliffhanger...

Damn this was a seriously awesome book!! I loved the first 3 in this series with Bash & Talia and wasn't really sure what to expect for Cass & Calder's story. Well I certainly didn't expect to be completely sucked in as I was. I spent the entire day absorbed into their story and couldn't put it down (adjust ask my family as they didn't get dinner last night! Oops). I love the twists and secrets that surround them. Add in all the steaminess throughout this book and you've got a 5 star read!
PT Michelle has such a talent for writing that pulls you in and has you adoring the characters and making you feel the chemistry between them. Her descriptiveness makes you feel like you are there actually watching everything instead of reading it! I can't wait for the next one in this series!!

Here's the thing...I liked Cass a lot, especially after having met her in Blackest Red, but I couldn't equate her to the same woman in this one. In Blackest Red, she was fun and confident. The perfect best friend and roommate to Talia. And I'm not talking about the beginning where we go back to her initial meeting of Calder. That girl I could understand. She just seemed so opposite of who I thought her to be. And she came across very young.
Part of the issue is that I didn't quite get the angst between her and Celeste. They look alike, but are obviously from different social and economic spheres. Nor can I quite believe that two people could look so much alike that their families could not tell them apart. Wearing a mask may confuse things, but not when Cass was expected to pretend to be Celeste for any length of time around the people she is closest too. Now Calder? Him I adored. Not as much as Sebastian, but I definitely love that he is part of the series and paired with Cass...at least the one I hope to meet again from Blackest Red. And I definitely want to know what really happened to Cass and Celeste's part in it, who Calder is related to because there has to be something big in there, and if Mina will get her own story.
So although this wasn't my favorite, there is still a lot that I want to know and will definitely read the next book. Like the others in the series, this one has some hot sex scenes, so definitely not for anyone under 18.
After finishing Talia and Sebastian’s books in the In the Shadows series, I was so excited to see more from this world, with Cass and Calder getting their own story. I devoured the first book in only a few hours and was left gasping, wanting more! It was sexy, intense and I was left in suspense!
The first chapter takes us back to the masquerade party where Talia crossed paths with Sebastian, but now we see what happened to Cass while Talia was chasing her lead. Cass parties it up, while pretending to be Celeste; a rich girl that she has grown up with, who looks remarkably similar. She dances with a few guys before being swept off her feet by Calder. They have an instant attraction, and he pushes past some of Cass’s boundaries and they explore some of their passion. I liked seeing these scenes to know what happened, and there were a few other moments that were added to give more detail about Cass’s past. She is a good person, that cares for her family, but losing a loved one and a going through a bad experience has made her feel a little broken.
I love Calder! He’s a charming guy, very forward and was confident with his claim on Cass’s body. The moment on the stone bench where Calder worshipped Cass’s body with kisses and caresses was sizzling hot! * fans self * This whole scene played out while Calder was fully clothed too… definitely my favourite scene! I could still see the connection between Cass and Calder was still strong when they meet again four years later. The lust and passion for one another hasn’t faded, and they find it hard to keep their hands off one another.
There was just one thing that I didn’t believe 100% and that was Cass pulling off the second party. I don’t want to spoil it for anyone, but I don’t get how people would believe that, especially family. But I was able to look past it and enjoy the rest of the story.
P.T. Michelle has an easy writing style that I enjoy. Gold Shimmer was told from three perspectives – Cass and Calder, as well as a mystery person – and each one gave more depth to the story and in some cases added more suspense! I have my theories, but I will have to wait and see in the next book! If you enjoyed the first books in the series, you will love Gold Shimmer!
I wish they would let you know when there are cliffhangers! This is not a complete book. I hate to start reading a book and you have to always read another book for the ending. They do not even let you know this when you download it! I try to stay away from these books unless they offer it in a complete set.
